Innovative machines for innovative products

SK-OU/3000

Multirip-saw SK-OU (opening width 3.000 mm) with a top and a bottom saw shaft.

When it comes to cutting LVL panels Steico relies on the decades of experience of the specialists at Paul Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co KG.

The Steico group having its headquarters near Munich and currently employing about 900 people is the world’s leading manufacturer and distributor of wood fiber insulating material. In addition to the head office near Munich Steico is running factories in Poland and France as well as trading companies in France and Great Britain. Among other products Steico is also selling LVL (laminated veneer lumber)

For this product they are now planning to build a completely new factory at the Polish location in Czarnków. The project has been realized together with the Finish system engineering company Raute. It quickly turned out that only a Paul rip saw would come into question for ripping the LVL panels produced on a Raute press. However, the requirements on this rip saw would be very extraordinary. Panels of up to 90 mm in thickness, up to 18 m in length and up to 2.5 m in width were to be cut into 200 mm wide strips. But on top of this, another requirement was to provide the top and bottom edges of the strips with chamfers. This is only possible with a machine with top and bottom saw shaft and with the use of special grooving tools. The opening width of the machine must be 3 m due to the panel width. Drive motors with a motor power of 90 and 200 kW were indispensable due to the high cutting forces. With a total weight considerably exceeding 12 t this machine type Paul SK-OU/3000 is definitely ranking among the largest machines ever built by Paul Maschinenfabrik.
